Look at Mii!

So I finally played a Wii for the first time this weekend. I know it makes me a horrible geek, but I just haven’t had any interest. I didn’t find the mechanic incredibly compelling. That being said, I had fun. We played a golf game that was basically like golf and darts combined. You had to hit your golf ball onto a green that was basically a dart board, compensating for stronger and stronger directional winds as the level progressed. We also played a bowling game that involved trying to knock down the most pins, with more and more pins each round until the game was over. We took a look at the Avatar game for Wii and I wasn’t all that impressed. The characters were recognizable, but just a bit off. The best part was that you could switch between controlling Ang and controlling Momo. Controlling Momo was pretty cool. You could get him into little places that Ang couldn’t fit. Last, we took a look at Zelda for the Wii. That game was pretty, but they did something weird with the animation where they didn’t model the eyes on the characters, they just made them part of the texture over a basically area on the face. The result was that the eyes looked painted on, like a doll. It’s possible they did that on purpose for a more anime like effect, but it just looked creepy to me. Despite that, I enjoyed as much of the game as we played before I got tired and went home. I mean, we were off to a good start when the first two mini games involved Link cutting goats while riding Epona, the horse, then jumping Epona over fences. I was like, “They made this game just for me!” I have to admit, I was pretty excited to see them integrating a horse aspect, particularly one integral to the game play, into an RPG. Does it get any better? I also made Jordan take him through his gaits a few times to see if they all looked accurate, and I’m happy to say that they did. In fact, they were incredibly accurate, with even the movement of Link’s body realistically matching the gait the horse was doing. Oh, and if you’re curious, here’s my Mii.
