Figgy Pudding

My mom got me a subscription to Cooking Light this year. I found a recipe in it for something that sounded like it could be tasty for a filling and healthy breakfast. The recipe basically involved making a homemade granola, making a honey-vanilla greek yogurt mixture, and baking some figs in cinnamon. Then cooling all the ingredients and serving them together. It called for black figs only, but I decided to do a mix of Kadota and black figs. It was very delicious and makes about 4-5 servings. Next time, though, I will make it with plain vanilla yogurt instead of greek style yogurt, as the tart/tang of the greek style yogurt was a bit overpowering to me.

Summer Flowers

This is actually the second set of flowers I have planted this summer, but I guess I forgot to take pictures of the first. The pink are Lobelia (Laguna Heavenly Lilac), the blue are Delphinum (Larkspur), the deep red are Chrysanthemum (mums), and the yellow are Argyranthemum (dill daisies).

Rift – Better than Expected

In case you didn’t notice from my Twitter feed, I’ve been playing a lot of Rift since early access started on Thursday. I got some nice screenshots of my character today. I also climbed to the top of a random mountain on the edge of the first zone, looking over a lake with another zone in the distant edge of the water. The view was quite pretty, so I took some shots of that well.

We decided to try a game where we all got Smite/Heal summoner spells, we all got Madred’s Razors and Boots, and the rest Sunfire Capes. We all got tanky characters (Warwick, Amumu, Mordekaiser, Shen, Poppy). We all went to Golem at the start of the game. He died immediately. We did Dragon as soon as it spawned and Baron at level 9, and both every chance there after. They melted away like nothing. The results of the game overall were pretty great. It’s New Flower Time

My second gardening round of the year is complete. It was an awesome day for it. It’s 65 degrees outside and the wild, cool pre-storm breeze is blowing. I found the most gorgeous Dahlias at the store. I don’t usually like Dahlias, but I couldn’t pass these up. I also got a Osteospermum (Cape Daisy), Star Flower, and Chrysanthemum.

Lucky Train Cake

A few months ago Jordan’s sister and step father stopped by our offices and brought with them an amazing piece of culinary art work. They had actually created a train cake, complete with various candy and snack cargo, cars brightly colored with icing, chocolate train tracks, and popcorn smoke. It was extremely impressive and must have taken hours of painstaking work. Sadly, none of us could bring ourselves to eat it, although the cargo was certainly sampled. I had to preserve it on (digital) film for posterity.

There Be Dragons

One of Brett’s former co-workers, when he worked at Gazillion, had an impressive collection of model dragons. The first time I visited Brett’s office over a year ago, I saw them on his desk and stared at them with fascination and envy in my heart. A couple of months before Brett left Gazillion, the owner of said dragons left, and left behind part of his collection. I was at Brett’s office after he left, and one of Brett’s co-workers mentioned that he didn’t work there anymore. I said, “But, his dragons are still here…” The guy said, “Yeah, he took the ones he wanted and said the rest were up for grabs.” I couldn’t believe it, “Really??! Why would he do that?” “I dunno, but help yourself.” I ended up taking two of them. I really like dragons and these models are really well done. They are now adorning the top of the bookshelf in my bedroom. I love the way they look down on me when I’m laying in bed.

I babysat Annabelle again. There were some cute incidents that I managed to catch on film.

The first was that I actually got Sammy and Annabelle to play tug of war. This achievement is amazing both because Sammy never plays and because Annabelle is fairly scared of Sammy and concedes anything to her almost immediately.

Next, I usually put Sammy’s nylabone away when Annabelle comes over, because I don’t want to risk that Sammy’s food aggression will extend to flavored toys. However, I forgot about it this time. Annabelle discovered the bone, and went crazy for it. Sammy didn’t seem to care at all. Watching an Annabelle-sized dog chewing a bone intended for a Sammy-sized dog was pretty funny.

Last, Annabelle fell asleep under my chair, which is a rare occurrence. She also decided that using my power adapter as a pillow seemed like a good idea, presumably because it was warm.
